On March 29, 2016 Markout WSC held an informative meeting to explain their decision to allow members to vote on merging with Talty WSC. It was very well attended, and quite lively. On April 12, Markout members voted down the merger.
Council approves amended zoning re: parking in driveways; adds Farmers Market to approved uses; is introduced to the idea of taking ownership of part of FM740; reluctantly approves new shopping center at FM1641/FM548/RR tracks.
Forney Council held a workshop regarding the fate of the recently purchased Booker T. Washington school building, adopted new budget which lowers taxes 2.5 cents, accepted 4.33 acres in Meadow Ridge for a future fire station, and had a second visit by a resident seeking ordinance enforcement.
A lively 2.5 hour workshop was held to work out details about policies for use of the new Spellman Ampitheater. The required changes will be resubmitted to the Planning & Zoning commission in August.

Williams for military service; Recognized Community Thrift and Value Center; Now prefers to implement the Quiet Zone while keeping all RR crossings open; Granted a variance for on-premises consumption of alcohol for Zanata's; Approved changes to employee health insurance, joining Fort Worth coop purchasing system, and amended Wastewater Contract w/ KDMWUD 3.
The FEDC approves $12,500 for ADA construction at 106 E. Main, defers leasing of same, pulls consideration of items re: 215 S. Bois D'arc, approves a termination of the agreements with Zanatas.
The city council awarded Jennifer Clark the Star Employee award, proclaimed Oct. 17 as Forney Messenger day; approved funding for services from the Environmental Co-op and design services for Hwy 80 ramp improvements; reappointed Judge Margaret Spain; amended the ordinance for school-zone speed limits; prohibited parking on Justice Center Dr.; debated the special events policy; amended a contract to allow NFHS onto the wastewater system; extended the Fox Hollow PID agreement for 3 years; and amended the tax abatement agreement for the E.R. development.
The Forney P&Z during its regular Jan. 02 meeting approved a C.U.P. for a Private Club to be downtown at 213 & 215 S. Bois D'Arc, and tabled action re Banquet Hall at 315 S. Bois D'Arc.
The Forney Independent School District has stated: "All Forney ISD schools are currently in Soft Shelter in Place due to the incident at the Kaufman County Courthouse on Thursday morning, Jan. 31. Students will attend classes as scheduled. Students will not be permitted outside and visitors will not be allowed in the building."
So the schools are not quite in lockdown mode, but close.
The Forney City Council, during its Jan. 20, 2015 meeting, held four public hearings, approving rezoning for Gateway Parks at 1641 N. of Grandview, sign changes, Brooklyn Village modifications, then approved 11 more items.
