City Council meeting awards, update on 460 / Broad ramps revisions
During its regular May 03, 2016 meeting, the Forney City Council met and (this is a preliminary report):
- Mayor Wilson proclaims May as Motorcyle Safety Awareness Month, presenting such to three audience members.
- Mayor Wilson presented NTCOG "Hot Stuff Award" to Forney Fire Dept., for emergency preparedness.
- City Manager Daniels said, based on recent citizen comments about the flags, new flags have been ordered. Mr. Daniels said himself, the Mayor & Mayor pro-tem had a "very productive" meeting with Luminant, the new owner of the power plant, possible annexation was discussed. He said TxDOT advised last week that the council would need to make a decision in a few days regarding the ramp project.
- Council heard an update from Ms. Corsen on the planned revisions of the FM460 / Broad St. ramps:
- the access road will become one-way. Some property owners have expressed concern about that. TxDOT will not budge on that.
- Both Fire and Police chiefs were concerned about lack of access, TxDOT may consider adding requested cut-throughs.
- This project is not a City of Forney project, but part of Kaufman County bond project.
- Mayor Wilson expressed concern that 5,000 cars per day use that now, will have fewer access points to the west.
- Liberty Hill will go away - the statue will be stored, and an attempt to restore it will be made after the project is completed.
- the access road will become one-way. Some property owners have expressed concern about that. TxDOT will not budge on that.
- The council adjourned into very lengthy executive session to consider City Manager and City Attorney applicants.
