FISD recognizes athletes, approves roofing
During its regular Mar. 05, 2018 meeting, the Forney Independent School District Board met and in summary:
- Secondary Student-of-the-Month, Elita Kahsay Yemane, 8th Grade Student at Brown Middle School introduced by Dr. Pamela Luttrull, Principal, who stated Elita was on (student council?) & drum-line
- Elementary Student-of-the-Month, Valeria Ibarra, 5th Grade Student at Blackburn Elementary School introduced by Ms. Courtney Parker, Principal who said she was kind & self-giving, good at overcoming obstacles, a great role model and wants to be a veterenarian.
- Recognized Forney High School All-State Academic Football Athletes, introduced by Mr. Neal Weaver, Athletic Director, then Coach Rush
- Thomas Drew Derrick - All-State Academic Football 2nd Team
- Morgan William Wallace - All-State Academic Football 2nd Team
- Jaylon Foster Hutchings - All-State Academic Football Honorable Mention Team
- Morgan Reid Langford - All-State Academic Football Honorable Mention Team

- Recognized North Forney High School All-State Academic Football Athletes, introduced by Mr. Neal Weaver, Athletic Director, then Coach Jackson, who thanked the board and admin for making changes.

- Monthly Financial Report - Mr. John Chase, Chief Financial Officer said slightly ahead of last year revenue, close on expenses. Debt service - ... Cash on hand - 55 mil
- Master Planning Report - Dr. Justin Terry, Deputy Superintendent said wasn't much to update since workshop meeting. Mr. Gallegher presented a slightly higher estimate, but includes removal of columns and canopy now. Dr. Terry said about to meet w/ city for FAC, will begin roping off areas of schools.

- Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy, 3200 Oates Drive, Mesquite, TX is proposing to expand grade levels from 6-12 to K-12.
- Jubilee Academics - San Antonio, TX is proposing a new address (to be determined) that is planned for Dallas, Texas and surrounding areas to serve PK-4 through 12 and is expected to have a maximum enrollment of 1,000. Forney ISD is included within their boundaries.
- Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy, 3200 Oates Drive, Mesquite, TX is proposing to expand grade levels from 6-12 to K-12.
- Budget Amendment
- Approved by consensus to place on April agenda as consent item the TASB Policy Update #110, Affecting Local Policies Listed, As a First Reading Presenter: Mr. Rick Geer, Chief of Human Services said this affects board member qualifications, elections and removal from the board.
- BBB(LOCAL) - Board Members: Elections
- Approved Awarding Bid for the Reroofing Contract for Claybon Elementary to Paragon Roofing for $522k. Mr. Chase, CFO said put in 1.1 million in budget, have discovered not necessary to replace all the panels. Did post bids in Messenger, had 5 proposals. Paragon was lowest bid, has good reputation. total $522k.
