Forney Board of Adjustments Jan. 15, 2015 considers museum signage
During a Jan. 15, 2015 meeting, the Forney Board of Adjustments met and:
- Elected Jeremy VanHoozer as chairman
- Held a Public Hearing re: a request for a variance/special exception for 200 S. Bois D’Arc Street to the City of Forney Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Section 48.2.F.130, which allows a maximum of one (1) wall sign on the front façade of a building. The request also includes a variance/special exception to the City of Forney Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Section 48.9.A.2, which allows no more than one (1) wall mounted sign to be located on the same wall. The applicant proposes three (3) wall signs on the front façade.
Director Peter Morgan stated staff was in favor of this exception, the ordinance allows such for historic areas, the square footage of the proposed signage is less than the maximum allowed by ordinance, and surrounding property owners were notified - no response was received. Mr. Hatley explained the original building had the signs painted on the brick, and given the restoration just done on the brick, these signs will be metal and will simulate what the painted brick would look like. Mr. Beason said the picture of the original building was from about 1895. There was no other public input. After brief deliberation, the board moved to grant the variance.
